Mountain America Credit Union Named One of the Fastest Growing Companies by Utah Business Magazine

For three years running, Mountain America has been named among the Fast 50; selection based on combination of revenue growth and total revenue

For the third year in a row, Utah Business Magazine named Mountain America Credit Union to its Fast 50, a list of the 50 fastest growing companies in Utah. Selection is based on revenue growth and total revenue. At an awards banquet held at the Grand America Hotel in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah Business Magazine revealed individual rankings from 50-1 with Mountain America finishing at 41.

“We’ve experienced tremendous growth over the last year, and I attribute that to our team and their commitment to our philosophy of ‘people helping people,’” said Sterling Nielsen, president and chief executive officer at Mountain America. “We’ve got an aggressive growth strategy that enables us to continue providing our members with the financial products and resources they need to thrive in an environment that is fraught with financial challenges like record-setting inflation, rising costs and high interest rates.”

Founded in 1936, Mountain America Credit Union is a full-service financial institution headquartered in Sandy, Utah, with a mission to help its members define and achieve their financial dreams. In 2022, the credit union continued to grow while offering members a variety of convenient, flexible products and services, as well as sound, timely advice. Specific growth milestones include:

  • Surpassed more than $17 billion in assets.
  • Became the ninth largest credit union in the United States.
  • The Small Business Administration’s Utah District Office named Mountain America the top 7(a) lender in the state and the top 7(a) rural lender in Utah. In 2022, Mountain America provided 7(a) loans to 101 business owners in Utah totaling more than $53.9 million.
  • Received the Association for Talent Development BEST Award for successfully building talent enterprise-wide and strategically driving a talent development culture that delivers excellent results.
  • Awarded $2,500 scholarships to 120 students throughout its six-state footprint, including more than 60 in Utah.
  • Provided 10 teachers with grants of up to $2,000 each for K-12 classroom learning projects.

“This award is a testament to the effectiveness of this approach,” Nielsen continued. “Our talent strategy focuses on building from within starting in branches, service centers, and other customer-facing roles and then extending up the chain to leaders.”

Each Mountain America branch focuses on community engagement and financial guidance while providing members with a variety of products and services, including traditional savings accounts, insurance, investments, auto and RV loans, and mortgage loans and services.

Fast 50 Award recipients are required to be in business for five years. Revenue and growth numbers are vetted by Squire & Company, one of Utah’s premier accounting, advisory services, and tax firms, for financial accuracy.
