Caring for our communities

Mountain America Foundation

The mission of the Mountain America Foundation is to promote the health, education and overall well-being of youth and families in our communities.
Volunteers carrying gifts

To exemplify our philosophy of People Helping People, we formed the Mountain America Foundation in 2020 to support and improve the communities we serve.

The Foundation is funded by Mountain America Credit Union and its generous members.

Swing for the Kids

A beloved tradition since 2004, the Swing for the Kids Challenge is a day of golf and giving, raising funds for Primary Children’s Hospital. Thanks to the generous support of our business partners and the community, we have raised over $2,000,000 to help Primary Children’s fulfill their mission of providing specialized medical care to children in an environment of love and concern.

2022 Make-A-Wish

In 2022, Mountain America matched employee donations to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The generous contributions from Mountain America team members helped grant wishes to six children in Utah, Idaho and Arizona. A few of the wishes granted included a baby grand piano, an off-road wheelchair and a trip to Disney World!

Ronald McDonald House

Mountain America Credit Union has a wonderful partnership with Ronald McDonald House Charities. This organization supports families with sick children when it's needed most and helps them access the medical care and resources they need to heal.

Month of Caring

We know giving back extends beyond charitable donations. The real impact comes when team members get out and serve the community. Each September, team members participate in the Month of Caring, receiving up to four hours of paid time off to volunteer for the community charity of their choice.

In 2021, team member Greg helped assemble 500 meals for hungry families with his team. He said, “Volunteering with this group of people is so much fun. But more importantly, I value the opportunity to assist so many families and give them food in a time of hardship. To offer a bit of hope to those families brings true satisfaction to the soul.”

Hale Centre Theatre

Hale Centre Theatre at the Mountain America Performing Arts Centre in Sandy, Utah, opened its doors in November 2017. This new theatre was a much-needed facility, as Hale Centre Theatre had outgrown two locations. The Sandy location has two stages and plenty of attached, free parking.

Mountain America has been the Season Sponsor at Hale Centre Theatre in Sandy since its opening, which helps cover operating and overhead expenses so tickets to this world-class theatre remain affordable. Mountain America’s sponsorship also funds the Student Matinee Program, providing complimentary tickets to students.

2021 Operation Warm

In 2021, Mountain America matched employee donations to Operation Warm, which provides new coats and shoes to kids in need, resulting in over $30,000 raised—enough for more than 1,200 pairs of shoes and coats. These items were given to children in Utah, Idaho and Montana.

A $10,000 donation was also given to Operation Warm through Mountain America’s partnership with Idaho State University Athletics, where every three-pointer (basketball) and first-down (football) led to a donation.

Pay It Forward

If you’ve ever seen someone in need and thought “I wish could help more,” then you understand the driving force behind KUTV News and Mountain America’s Pay It Forward program. To date, the program has given more than $45,000 to deserving causes.

Annual Employee Match

Each year, Mountain America employees can donate to select nonprofit partners, and the credit union matches those donations. This is a great way to engage team members in Mountain America's charitable efforts and multiply our impact. This annual giving drive has supported local food banks, Operation Warm and Make-A-Wish.

Education Grants

Since 2016, Mountain America has awarded grants to support learning-based projects for school leaders in our communities.

“Mountain America is proud to support educators,” said Chief Marketing Officer Sharon Cook. “Mountain America education grants help teachers provide essential learning tools and get creative in their classrooms.”
