Mountain America Credit Union Donates Nearly $40,000 to Charities in Idaho

Donations are made through partnerships with athletic programs with Boise State University (BSU), Idaho State University (ISU), and Idaho Falls Spud Kings.

Through its ongoing support of athletic programs at Boise State University, Idaho State University, and working with the Idaho Falls Spud Kings hockey team, Mountain America Credit Union recently donated nearly $40,000 to Operation Warm and St. Luke’s Children’s Hospital.

In 2017, with the goal of helping local charities, Mountain America teamed up with the men’s basketball teams at Boise State and Idaho State Universities. Since then, the credit union has donated $50 for every three-point shot made by both teams. In 2022, Mountain America also partnered with the Idaho Falls Spud Kings hockey team to add a new donation program, committing a $100 charitable donation for every goal scored in the 2022-2023 hockey season for a total of nearly $40,000.

“Community involvement is part of our DNA and Mountain America is pleased to support Operation Warm and St. Luke’s Children’s with the crucial services they provide to children and families in Idaho,” said Sterling Nielsen, president and chief executive officer at Mountain America Credit Union. “We appreciate partnering with Boise State University, Idaho State University, and the Idaho Spud Kings to make a lasting impact in the communities we serve.”

St. Luke’s Health Foundation

Since 2017, Mountain America has donated nearly $100,000 to St. Luke’s Health Foundation, the philanthropic arm supporting St. Luke's Children’s Hospital, through the three-point shot donation program with Boise State University’s men’s basketball team. Mountain America recently presented a check for $13,500 to St. Luke’s during the game on February 28, 2023. As the only children’s hospital in Idaho, St. Luke’s helps build a bright future for children by advancing research and ensuring compassionate care.

“As a season ticket holder, three-point shots are always exciting when watching a BSU basketball game; but as the director of patient and family support services at St. Luke’s Children’s, the excitement and happiness is even greater knowing that Mountain America Credit Union is supporting the littlest patients at St Luke’s,” Sherry Iverson, director of advocacy and community education at St. Luke’s Children’s, said. “Their generous donation with each three-point shot allows for staff to continue offering the outstanding care and the personal programs and support that is used every day. What a winning team BSU, Mountain America Credit Union, and St Luke’s [is]!”

Operation Warm

During the 2022-2023 men’s football and basketball seasons, Mountain America committed to a charitable donation for every first-down and three-pointer completed by the Idaho State Bengals. This year, the combined football and basketball teams earned enough points for a $10,500 donation to Operation Warm.

Mountain America also committed to donating $100 to Operation Warm for every goal made by the Idaho Spud Kings hockey team. During the 2022-2023 hockey season, the Spud Kings scored enough goals for a donation totaling $15,000.

On February 26, 2023, Mountain America presented checks totaling $25,500 to Operation Warm, for these donation programs. Operation Warm provides confidence, warmth, and hope to children through the gift of a brand-new winter coat and comfortable athletic shoes.

“Operation Warm is so grateful for its four-year partnership with Mountain America Credit Union,” said Michael Andrews, Operation Warm manager of partnerships for the Intermountain West. “The generosity Mountain America’s partners, ISU and the Idaho Falls Spud Kings, have shown to Operation Warm is nothing short of amazing. This collective generosity has allowed over 4,000 children to receive brand-new coats or shoes. Simply amazing.”
