Find Your Budgeting "Why"-Even If It's Chicken Nuggets | Guiding You Forward

When you really think about it, budgeting is a very personal thing. First of all, we’re talking about our money—which is VERY personal. But then, it’s also about finding the budgeting strategy that works best for our specific situation. Thankfully, Cassandra Fuentes, financial education manager at Mountain America Credit Union, popped into the podcast lounge to chat about this very thing.

In the video above, you’ll learn:

  • Two often forgotten budgeting tips.

  • Why Cass recommends budgeting twice.

  • How chicken nuggets and an air fryer can help you budget with your values in mind.

When people start the budgeting process, they often forget these two points. Cass offers details on these and explains why they are so important to your financial plan.

Cass also recommends budgeting twice—watch the video above to find out what she means by this.

Budgeting isn’t just about numbers—it’s also about spending in accordance with your values. Cass tells the story of realizing she and her family were spending too much money on eating out. She wanted to cut back, but wasn’t sure how the kids were going to take it. What did she do? She tied it into saving for a family trip that was already planned. Genius! The kids didn’t mind because there was a reward at the end—something they valued as a family.

And the story doesn’t end there. Cass took it one step further. You’ll have to watch the podcast video to see what she did, but let’s just say she used “mom ingenuity” and found a cheaper way to get the kids their chicken nuggets anyway!
