Alder & Tweed: Designing a Better Business | My Member Story

For many people, there’s nothing like family. And, for Reed Humphrey, family is extra important because he gets to work with his every day. Reed and his sisters, Heather and Lynsey, started a retail furniture company in Park City, Utah called Alder & Tweed.

The store was successful but running a retail business is a time-consuming endeavor. After a while, Reed noticed that many of their clients were not buying furniture—they were more interested in design services. That’s when he and his partners decided to expand into an interior design firm.

Fast forward to the present, Alder & Tweed Design Co. now has three locations (Park City, Utah; Big Sky, Montana; and Millerton, New York). They are unique in that they focus on vacation homes. Because clients with vacation homes are not typically located in the same area, Alder & Tweed has become proficient at providing virtual interior design services without sacrificing quality. They mastered remote client meetings way before the pandemic!

Reed’s favorite part of what he does is seeing his clients’ faces when they first walk through the door of their newly decorated home. Watching that pure joy and amazement makes all the hard work worth it!

Alder & Tweed believes in surpassing their clients’ expectations. In turn, they look for partners in business who do the same. That’s why they’ve entrusted Mountain America Credit Union with their banking needs for the past 12 years.

When Reed decided to expand his business services, he knew he needed a loan with specific parameters. Initially, he found that many banks weren’t willing to adjust their approach to accommodate his needs. Then he tried Mountain America. He says, “They stepped up and did what it took to make the loan work for us.”

Working outside of the box to provide personalized service is what Mountain America is all about. Reed knows that his business is not just another account. Unlike his experience with other banks, his account executive is responsive and knowledgeable—we see you, Danny Campelo!

When you know your financial partner is readily available to offer support, it gives you the ability to focus more on your passion—your business. That’s important to Reed.  “When I first started my business, I didn’t understand the true value of a good banking partner. Working with Mountain America has allowed us to grow in ways we couldn’t even imagine.”
