Our viewers are in for a slam-dunk episode of the Guiding You Forward podcast. Jaxson Robinson joins us to talk about Brigham Young University (BYU) basketball’s first season in the Big 12 Conference, which is also his last season as a shooting guard for BYU.
We caught up with Jaxson at The Creamery on BYU’s campus where he was on set filming a Mountain American Credit Union commercial with fellow BYU athlete Kody Epps.
In this video, you’ll learn about:
Jaxson’s perspective on BYU’s first season in the Big 12 Conference.
Why he is regarded as a positive force on the team.
His family ties to professional basketball.
As BYU enters their first season in the Big 12 Conference, Jaxson shares his thoughts on the team’s move. "There's a lot of outside noise, a lot of uncertainty since it’s our first year,” he says. “But we don't pay attention to it. We just keep our heads down, keep working, stay in the gym, and everything else will take care of [itself]."
Many people in Jaxson’s circle refer to him as being a positive force—a character trait he says he developed over time playing the game and keeping focused on the present. “Not a lot of people get an opportunity like this,” he says. “So, I’m making sure that I’m utilizing it and savoring every moment that I have, whether that be with my teammates or my coaches. I don’t want to take it for granted.”
Jaxson reveals the basketball icons who have influenced his game over the years, including his own aunt—who formerly coached in the WNBA—and Kobe Bryant and his inspiring “mamba mentality.” We also asked Jaxson who would be on his hypothetical Dream Team. Tune in to hear which basketball standouts are on his roster. Hint: He leans toward legends!
