97 Roses for Special Salt Lake Woman

Kathleen Maka is the heart and soul of The Inn Between, an end-of-life and respite care center for people who experience homelessness. This selfless Salt Lake City woman has been serving her community at The Inn Between since the beginning, dedicating years of her life to the center and its residents. 

Kathleen loves what she does—showing care and respect to her patients in a time of need is in her DNA. As a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA), she has the knowledge and experience to make a difference, but it’s what’s in her heart that really shines. But she rarely takes time for herself. 

Kathleen’s daughter, Ameila Fairbourn, nominated her mother for a much-deserved visit from the Dream Team, hoping to help her remedy that.  

It all started with beautiful roses—97 to be exact—in honor of the 97 residents Kathleen befriended before their passing. However, the surprise didn’t end there.
