Hoops Hero—Youth Coach Scores Big with Dream Team Surprise
The Salt Lake Sonics offers kids a place to learn basketball and grow as team players and individuals! This program goes beyond improving their skills on the court—it builds responsibility, teamwork and compassion. Co-founder Coach Dajon Thompson is dedicated to giving every kid a chance to play and learn, regardless of their financial situation.
“A lot of programs out here just want to win and make sure they get their names out there. Dajon focuses on player development, understanding there’s a bigger picture than just being great at 8 years old,” said Julius, a father of one of the Sonics players.
Coach Dajon’s commitment to the community caught the eye of the FOX 13 Dream Team, who paid a surprise visit to the coach and his squad during practice. Mountain America Credit Union and MasterTech recognized his incredible work with the kids by gifting him a gym bag packed with coaching essentials, a $250 gift card and $1,500 to support his efforts.
