Woman Stricken With ALS Gets Her Dream Home

When Courtney Poulson was diagnosed with ALS at the age of 23, the news was devastating to everyone that knew her. She soon lost the ability to walk and her husband, Chanse, was left to care for her and their two young children.

Laura Olsen, a family friend, submitted Courtney’s story, telling the Dream Team that even getting Courtney in and out of their small house in Heber is a challenge due to the limited access.

While the Poulson family was away on a family vacation, the Dream Team sprang into action! Our army of volunteers and partnering companies got started by improving and replacing the wheelchair ramp in order to provide easier access to the house. This allowed Courtney to enjoy her new, wheelchair-friendly backyard, which was landscaped by Chanse’s employer, Snake Creek Landscaping.

A small playground, along with an in-ground trampoline, was installed so that Courtney could easily watch her young children play. A pergola was also installed, offering adequate coverage from the elements, no matter the season.

And a big shout-out to the volunteers! They repainted the entire exterior of the home, patched a leak in the roof and made some interior updates that will allow Courtney to move around the house more easily. When the Dream Team was finished, the house and yard were barely recognizable.

The Poulson family returned to a huge surprise! Watch the full video to see their reactions.
