Mountain America Celebrates Opening of Mountain America Center in Idaho Falls
Dignitaries and special guests gathered for a ribbon cutting ceremony; 500 coats gifted to children in need to commemorate the occasion
Mountain America Credit Union celebrated the opening of the much-anticipated multi-use arena and event center, the Mountain America Center, in Idaho Falls with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and public grand opening on Monday, November 28, 2022.
To further commemorate the center’s opening and demonstrate its commitment to giving back to the community, the credit union also partnered with Operation Warm the following day to give away 500 coats to children in need.
“This is something that the community can be proud of. You might wonder why Mountain America would want to be involved in such a way. Mountain America is all about helping people,” said Sterling Nielsen, president and CEO at Mountain America Credit Union. “We’re so excited to partner with Operation Warm to give away over 500 coats to children as we kick off our first community event in this center. This center is all about improving the community and making it a gathering place where a difference can be made.”
The center is in Snake River Landing at 1690 Event Center Drive. The 48,000 square-foot venue features an arena with seating for up to 5,500 people and a state-of-the-art convention center with flexible configurations. The event center has already announced a world-class line-up of performances and events, including Brooks and Dunn, Lindsay Stirling, Brian Regan and Mannheim Steamroller. The venue is also home to the Spud Kings, the new Idaho Falls junior hockey team.
Idaho Falls Auditorium District (IFAD) announced a long-term naming-rights agreement with Mountain America Credit Union in 2019. Today, Mountain America’s brand is visible throughout the facility, with Mountain America Center prominent on the interior and exterior of the building including a digital marquee sign along the freeway.
“We needed help along the way, and we were able to partner with some unbelievable naming partners. Mountain America Credit Union stepped up when we needed somebody to assume the overall naming of this wonderful complex,” said Rob Spear, executive director of the Idaho Falls Auditorium District.
With this partnership, Mountain America plans to host financial education events and provide the local community with greater access to financial education resources. Additionally, credit union members will receive promotional benefits for select hosted events.
“We're all about improving communities. We have a lot of members in this area that that we want to help. And one of the ways we can help them is through financial education,” Nielsen said. “This is one of those places where we’ll be able to offer financial education for the community—giving people the financial resources they need so they can better their lives. That's part of what we are about.”
