Mountain America Credit Union Supports Veteran Golfers Association Idaho State Chapter
BOISE, Idaho – March 21, 2018 – Mountain America Credit Union is proud to announce it is supporting local veterans as the Idaho Tour of the Veteran Golfer’s Association (VGA) as the Platinum Sponsor. The VGA is dedicated to enriching the lives of Veterans and their family members through the game of golf.
Each year the VGA hosts more than 250 tournaments across the country and concludes the tours with a VGA National Championship. The Idaho Tour started Saturday, March 17 and ends with a state championship on July 28.
Lucas O'Neill, an active duty Air Force veteran and Air Guard member, began the chapter in Idaho in 2016. He says he’s seen how golf can make a difference in the life of a veteran.
“Golf is a great equalizer. Our veterans carry a lot of scars--some visible, others not. Golf allows individuals from various walks of life to compete on a level field. Our motto is, ‘it’s more than just a game.’ These individuals can connect and learn ways of overcoming the struggles they are facing through the experiences others have had,” says O’Neill. “Golf is a lot like life. We are playing the same course, but how we experience it and finish the round is vastly different. On the course and in life, you aren’t competing with others, only yourself. Having someone to lean on in both is huge.”
“We have a strong military community here in the Treasure Valley, and this is another great way we support our veterans and their families locally,” says Tim Toy, Mountain America Credit Union vice president of branches, Idaho “It’s inspiring to see how the game of golf can help veterans help each other.”
According to its website, the VGA helps reinforce values like integrity, respect and perseverance through the game of golf. Additionally, the VGA offers family oriented activities that help Veterans and their family members increase the amount of quality time spent together, and be more active in their communities.
Active duty military, those with veteran status, and their families can join the VGA. To learn more about the VGA, visit the national website or the Idaho chapter Facebook page.
