Mountain America’s Fifth Annual Month of Caring Celebrates the Spirit of Community Service
Month of Caring demonstrates Mountain America’s unwavering commitment to fostering a culture that gives back
Mountain America Credit Union proudly announces the successful completion of its fifth annual Month of Caring in September. This remarkable initiative embodies the essence of “people helping people,” a philosophy deeply ingrained in the credit union’s values. Throughout the month of September, Mountain America employees across Arizona, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah were provided with paid time off to dedicate their time and energy to various charitable endeavors.
Month of Caring is a unique opportunity for Mountain America employees to engage with their local communities, lend a helping hand, and make a positive difference in the lives of others. Since its inception in 2019, the Month of Caring initiative has gained momentum, with more than 2,500 Mountain America employees collectively contributing over 16,400 service hours to various charitable organizations. In 2023 alone, 1,107 team members logged an impressive 3,817 volunteer hours.
Sterling Nielsen, president and CEO at Mountain America expressed his pride in the credit union’s ongoing commitment to community service. He said, “We’re thrilled to see Month of Caring in its fifth year and celebrate the positive impact it continues to have in our communities. The dedication of our team members is truly remarkable, and it reflects the spirit of service that defines Mountain America.”
Mountain America employees enthusiastically participated in a range of community service projects as part of the Month of Caring initiative. Some highlights from this year’s activities included:
Donating toys and tying blankets: Senior leaders from Mountain America generously donated toys and tied blankets for Primary Children’s Hospital, bringing warmth and comfort to children in need.
Supporting students in need: Employees prepared weekend kits for the Granite School District, the third-largest district in Utah, helping to provide essential resources to over 60,000 students.
Caring for our furry friends: Team members made dog toys and treats and provided care for cats at the Humane Society of Utah, the state’s largest open-admission animal welfare organization.
Brightening lives with Make-A-Wish: Employees took part in decorating the Make-A-Wish headquarters for Halloween. Make-A-Wish is an organization dedicated to granting the wishes of children diagnosed with critical illnesses.
Zoo Rendezvous and Zoo Lights: Volunteers from Mountain America participated in events at Hogle Zoo, one of Utah’s most-visited attractions, supporting the zoo’s conservation efforts and educational programs.
Comforting families: One group served lunch at the Ronald McDonald House, offering a comforting space for families and individuals with children at Primary Children's Hospital. Another group tied 50 flannel blankets and created wellness backpacks for the Volunteers of America youth.

We believe in the importance of giving back to the communities where we live and work,” said Trent Savage, senior vice president and chief human resources officer at Mountain America. “This initiative allows our employees to make a meaningful impact in their local areas.”
As Mountain America’s Month of Caring unfolded throughout September, it was clear that the spirit of generosity and the desire to make a positive impact continued to thrive within the organization.
