Quinn loves to be on stage, and despite his fancy titles, he often makes time to participate in HCT productions. He believes that Utah is blessed with an abundance of opportunities when it comes to performing.
But how do you get started? “People learn mostly by doing,” Quinn says. “So, just start.” He offers tips for actors and would-be performers alike and reminds everyone watching that it’s not all musical theatre—there are plenty of productions that don’t require singing.
To help those perfecting their craft (or just having fun!), HCT has summer camps and other programs. Quinn talks about what types of classes are available and who can attend.
If you’re wondering if HCT holds open auditions, the answer is yes. As a matter of fact, it’s not unusual for there to be several hundred performers vying for the same role. Quinn tells us about a Covid-era holdover that continues to help both the performers and the HCT staff.
Regarding the support HCT gets from the community, Quinn says they would be nowhere without it! From the corporate financial support that allows HCT to provide education and experiences to young people to the patrons who buy the tickets because they simply love what HCT does, supporters of the theatre are what make Quinn’s world go ‘round.
“In this area, the arts participation is about double what it is in the rest of the nation,” says Quinn. He adds, “The mission of the theatre is to enrich lives through world-class theatre.” It’s so wonderful that HCT not only lives its mission every day, but they get to do it for so many!
