Small Grantsville Theater Gets Dream Team Surprise

Utah is in the midst of one of its hottest summers ever recorded. But, for one small theater in Grantsville, the show must go on. Macae Wanberg and her sister Kelly co-own the Old Granite Theater, which is located in a historically-significant building dating back to the 1800s. Macae and Kelly offer no shortage of passion, pouring their heart and soul into every production. Despite lacking the large budgets of other, larger theaters, they often design and produce the costumes, sets and props themselves, yet still put on quality productions that are second to none.

But all is not well in the Lincoln-era building. Except for a few small window units that are woefully overwhelmed, the building is completely devoid of air conditioning, leaving the audience and cast members to suffer through the sweltering surroundings.

When Fox 13’s Big Buddha and the Dream Team learned of the desperate need for air conditioning at the play hall, they decided to surprise Macae in a unique way. Disguised in a fox mask, Buddha took part in an open call audition, complete with singing and dancing. In the end, Buddha revealed that he wasn’t actually auditioning for the play but rather surprising the sisters with the gift of cool air.

Macae and Kelly were floored and said that the gift would now allow the theater to be the total experience for the community they had always hoped it would be.
