7 Habits to Help Avoid Fraud | Guiding You Forward
It’s another day in the Mountain America Credit Union podcast lounge, friends. As the fraud discussion continues, you’ve heard a lot about what you shouldn’t do. This time we’re talking about simple, proactive steps to prevent fraud and keep your money safe.
Tune in to this episode of the Guiding You Forward video podcast to learn:
- Why it pays to be open and honest.
- How often you should monitor your account.
- More ways to protect against fraud.
As usual, Rob Woellhaf, our vice president of fraud management, joins us to dive into this topic.
Rob’s first “do” is to be open and honest. What does he mean by that? Say someone asks you to do something—like wire money or purchase gift cards—but then tells you not to tell anyone. Before you follow through, be sure to be honest with a trusted friend or bank teller. This one simple move can save you from financial heartache down the road.
Another tip is to monitor your account frequently. This is a great tip for everyone, but especially seniors. Check the charges and deposits and be sure you are aware of each one. If you see something you don’t recognize, check in with your financial institution right away.
How often should you check in? Rob has the answer. He also explains how waiting to report an unauthorized transaction could affect your liability.
