Mountain America Miracle Makers: Matthew's Story

Matthew Paul was living his dream as a firefighter in Oklahoma when he received a call for help from his sister in Arizona. As a single mother, his sister was struggling to provide for her daughter Kinsley and was pregnant with her second child. Selfless and filled with love for his family, Matthew dropped everything to move to Arizona to help her out.

He gained guardianship of now 6-year-old Kinsley, who calls him daddy and has recently started a new job as an aircraft maintenance technician. Both Matthew and Kinsley have suffered health issues, but despite hitting a rough patch in his life, he always puts everyone else first, doing what he can, when he can to help those around him.

Because of his generosity, kind heart and resilience, his sister nominated him for a visit from the Miracle Makers. Matthew was presented with a scholarship to a local dance studio and dance outfit for Kinsley, a Home Depot gift card so he can buy the necessary equipment he’ll need for his new job and a gift card for an eye exam and new glasses. The biggest surprise of all came when he opened the box to find a certificate stating that Mountain America Credit Union would be paying for him to receive additional training that will enable him to advance quicker in his profession.

“Thank you so much. I don't even know what to say,” Paul said, “Everything I do is for that little girl, and these tools behind me will help me give her a better future so it's not just for me it's for her too.”
