My Member Story: Terence White
What do you do when you’re looking for a new truck for yourself and your family but the car dealership turns you away because your credit isn’t good enough?
If you’re Terence White, you start thinking about your past financial mistakes and how they are still affecting your finances today. You may even consider bankruptcy.
“That experience, honestly, made me feel pretty low and pretty down on myself for letting my credit get that bad” said Terence.
Enter Mountain America Credit Union loan officer, Bambi Burnell.
Terence walked into our Spanish Fork branch and the first thing he told Bambi was that he knew she wouldn’t be able to help him. She could see that he felt he wasn’t worthy of having good credit. But he didn’t know Bambi.
He also didn’t know about our debt rescue program—a free service offered by Mountain America to assess ways to consolidate debt and refinance loans at a lower rate.
Even though Bambi couldn’t get him into an auto loan for the truck he wanted that day, she offered Terrence something more—a guiding hand to help him fix his credit over time and good financial habits that will continue to work for him throughout his lifetime.
It’s not every day that someone comes into your life and makes such an impact. But, for Terence, meeting Bambi was a game-changer. Today, he has a safe truck for his family, and he is out from under the heavy burden of bad credit.
“You shouldn’t be embarrassed by your credit score. Everyone has a history,” Bambi says. “It doesn’t define you. What defines you is what you do with that decision and how you go forward and make something better out of it.”
